Bangkok: The body of Pol. Col. Thitisan Uthanaphon, known as Superintendent Joe, has been delivered to the Chulalongkorn Hospital’s forensic department for a second autopsy. The family sought this additional examination following the initial results from the Ministry of Justice’s Institute of Forensic Science, which indicated that his death resulted from asphyxiation due to hanging.
According to Thai News Agency, the body was transferred from the Ministry of Justice’s Institute of Forensic Medicine to Chulalongkorn Hospital’s Forensic Medicine Institute. This move was requested by the family to compare findings from both institutions. The transfer was conducted by foundation staff, who moved the body into a rescue van, accompanied by grieving relatives. A poignant moment occurred when Superintendent Joe’s younger sister embraced his body as it was placed in the van, underscoring the somber atmosphere of the day.
Pol. Lt. Col. Somkuan Phuengtrakul, deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, provided updates on the case. He acknowledged the complexities in proceeding with the investigation following the complainant’s death but assured that progress can still be made. The towel involved in the incident was reportedly taken during resuscitation efforts. Additionally, while only a partial clip of the prison CCTV footage has been released publicly, the full footage has been reviewed by Superintendent Joe’s family and will serve as evidence in the ongoing investigation.
