Nakhon Ratchasima: The legend of ‘Ah Chee Siang Lo’, a renowned comedian, has come to an unexpected end. He passed away from sudden heart failure at the age of 57. His family and colleagues are struggling to come to terms with the loss, as they were planning for his return to the entertainment scene.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred last night at the ‘Krua Achi Siang Lo’ restaurant in Ban Din Udom, Wang Nam Khiao District. Authorities at Wang Nam Khiao Police Station received a report of a deceased individual at the location. The deceased was identified as Mr. Sompong, affectionately known as ‘Achi Siang Lo’, famous for his phrase ‘What a total idiot!’.
Relatives reported that Ah Chee experienced chest pain before collapsing at the restaurant. Efforts by rescue workers to revive him were unsuccessful, and he was rushed to Wang Nam Khiao Hospital. Despite medical efforts, he passed away peacefully due to acute heart failure.
Ah Chee Siang Lo was known for his distinctive voice and catchphrase, “What a bummer”. After his career in comedy and film waned, he ventured into the restaurant business. His first attempt in Saraburi Province did not succeed, leading him to open “Achee Sianglo Kitchen” in Wang Nam Khiao, where he had been operating for about a year before his sudden passing.
The atmosphere at Wang Nam Khiao Hospital was somber as staff and friends gathered to perform an incense-lighting ceremony to honor Ah Chee. His body was transported to Wat Ang Kaew in Bangkok’s Phasi Charoen District for religious services.
Mr. Chatchapisit Sirichaithewin, a close associate, expressed the team’s sorrow, noting that Achi’s passing was untimely and unexpected. Achi had been preparing for a comeback to various platforms. It is believed that his death may have been influenced by insufficient rest during the Songkran Festival, with high blood pressure being his only known health issue. A water pouring ceremony is planned for this evening at Wat Ang Kaew.
