Klong Luek-Poipet Checkpoint Remains Open for Students Amid Increased Security Measures

Aranyaprathet: “Klong Luek-Poipet” checkpoint is maintaining its usual operations, allowing students to pass through starting at 6:00 a.m., despite new stringent measures being implemented for Thai nationals crossing into Cambodia for work at casinos and entertainment venues.

According to Thai News Agency, the relaxed entry and exit measures for students remain unchanged, enabling them to move through the checkpoint from 6:00 a.m., unlike the general public, who can only cross between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. This follows reports of a possible closure of all border checkpoints by Cambodia, prompting authorities on the Thai side to monitor the situation closely.

At the Klong Luek border checkpoint in Poipet, Aranyaprathet, operations proceeded as normal with immigration, customs, and military officers present to facilitate the opening of gates at the designated time. Students were seen crossing the border immediately as the gates opened at 6:00 a.m.

Today marks the commencement of enhanced screening protocol
s for Thais traveling to Poipet for employment in casinos and entertainment venues. These measures are part of heightened security efforts initiated by the Burapha Task Force, which issued a directive to governmental agencies the previous evening.

The directive emphasizes increased vigilance for all Thai nationals employed in gambling establishments, casinos, and entertainment venues in Poipet, insisting on strict compliance with security protocols at all border crossings in Sa Kaeo Province from 8:00 a.m. onwards until further notice.
