Typhoon Kalmaegi to Impact Vietnam and Thailand with Heavy Rain and Flood Warnings

Bangkok: Typhoon Kalmaegi is set to make landfall in Vietnam on November 6-7, with Thailand bracing for its impact as heavy rain is expected to affect 57 provinces.

According to Thai News Agency, the Meteorological Department has reported that Typhoon Kalmaegi, currently centered over the central South China Sea with maximum sustained winds of approximately 150 kilometers per hour, is moving westward and slightly northward. The storm is expected to weaken into a tropical storm and then a depression as it passes through Laos and into Thailand’s Ubon Ratchathani Province.

The department has issued warnings of increased rainfall across various regions of Thailand, including the Northeast, North, Central, East, and South, from November 7-9, 2025. Residents are cautioned to prepare for potential flash floods and landslides, particularly in vulnerable areas.

Nine provinces, including Ubon Ratchathani and Buriram, are at risk of experiencing very heavy rain with over 90 mm/day. Meanwhile, 48 other provinces are
expected to receive heavy rain ranging from 35.1-90 mm/day. These areas span across the Northern, Northeastern, Central, Eastern, and Southern regions of Thailand, including major locales such as Bangkok and its surrounding areas.

The Meteorological Department emphasizes the need for public vigilance against potential hazards such as flash floods, mudslides, and strong winds, especially in hillside and low-lying regions. Farmers are also advised to take precautionary measures to safeguard their crops from damage due to the anticipated severe weather conditions.
