2026 Nobel Prize Announcements Begin with Physiology and Physics Awards

Stockholm:The 2026 Nobel Prize announcement week has commenced, with early revelations including the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine and the Nobel Prize in Physics. The much-anticipated Nobel Peace Prize will be announced this Friday, October 9.

According to Thai News Agency, the Physiology or Medicine Prize was awarded to Carl Dizerot, Pyotr Hegemann, and Georg Nagel for their groundbreaking work in light-dependent cell control. Their discovery of channelrhodopsin, a light-responsive protein, and the development of optogenetics techniques have provided a new method to understand and potentially treat neurological conditions.

In Physics, Francis Halsen was honored for his dedication to the IceCube Neutrino Observatory, located at the Amundsen-Scott research station in Antarctica. His work has facilitated the study of high-energy neutrinos, offering insights into cosmic phenomena such as supermassive black holes and stellar explosions.

The Chemistry and Literature awards will follow on October 7th and 8th, respectively, with the Peace Prize being selected by the Norwegian Parliament's Nobel Committee on October 9th. The final category, the Nobel Prize in Economics, will also be announced during this period.

The Nobel Prize ceremony is scheduled for December 10th, marking the anniversary of Alfred Nobel's death. While the Peace Prize will be awarded in Oslo, Norway, the remaining prizes will be presented in Stockholm, Sweden.
