57-Year-Old Woman Arrested for Online Investment Scam at Lat Krabang Train Station

Lat krabang: A commando unit has arrested a 57-year-old woman involved in a fraudulent investment scheme at Lat Krabang train station. The arrest follows complaints from victims who reported being defrauded out of over 1.8 million baht.

According to Thai News Agency, the suspect, identified as Namthip, was part of an online investment scam network. She allegedly used Facebook to impersonate a well-known company, enticing victims with the promise of teaching them how to become agents for online product sales applications. The scheme guaranteed high incomes of up to 500,000 baht per month. After gaining the victims' trust, the scammers convinced them to transfer investment funds for matching products, resulting in a loss of over 1.8 million baht across 17 transactions.

During questioning, Namthip claimed she was employed as a housekeeper at a casino in Poipet when someone offered her a bank account in exchange for 2,000 baht. She stated that after providing the account, she lost contact with the person and was unaware of any transactions made using the account. However, police remain skeptical of her claims and suspect her involvement in a larger criminal gang. Authorities are now working to expand the investigation to uncover other possible accomplices.
