Bangkok: A 62-year-old man was trampled to death in a rubber plantation with his son when a wild elephant attacked them. They were unable to escape in time. The incident occurred in Ban Khlong Takian, Nong Yai District, Chonburi Province.
According to Thai News Agency, a tragic incident occurred in which Mr. Samart, 62, was killed by a wild elephant in a rubber plantation in the Khlong Takian area, Nong Yai District, Chonburi Province. His body showed large wounds consistent with being gored by an elephant's tusks and then trampled, and numerous elephant footprints were found at the scene.
The deceased's son recounted that he and his father woke up early to collect the rubber latex they had tapped the night before, fearing it would be stolen. However, upon arrival, they encountered several wild elephants. He and his father ran in different directions, but he believes his father, worried about him, ran back and was attacked and killed by the elephants.
Wild elephants are frequently encountered, and in large numbers, even though rubber harvesting has been changed from evening to morning, tragic incidents still occur.
