Bangkok: AirAsia has issued an apology regarding an incident involving flight FD3116 from Don Mueang to Hat Yai, where 23 passengers were inadvertently left on a bus due to a communication mishap. The airline has launched an investigation into the matter and plans to enhance security protocols to prevent future occurrences.
According to Thai News Agency, the issue came to light after a Facebook user shared their experience, which was further amplified by the "Hflight" page. The airline clarified that the incident took place on January 17, 2026, and involved a total of 136 passengers. The flight was scheduled to depart at 7:10 AM and arrive at 8:45 AM. However, due to the communication error, the flight was delayed by approximately 36 minutes.
The investigation revealed that a breakdown in coordination and communication among the staff at Don Mueang Airport was responsible for the confusion, impacting the passengers' ability to board on time. In response, the flight captain opted to wait for the affected passengers, ensuring everyone's safe travel to Hat Yai.
AirAsia has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and is taking decisive action against the staff involved, adhering to company regulations. The airline has committed to implementing more stringent oversight measures to ensure such incidents do not recur.
Further findings from Flightradar24 indicated that the flight, operated by an Airbus A320 with registration HS-BBJ, departed Bangkok at 08:03 and landed in Hat Yai at 09:12, deviating from its original schedule.
