Ang Thong Highway District Plans Restoration of Flooded Highway 33

Ang thong: The Ang Thong Highway District is gearing up to restore Highway 33, which has been submerged for over eight days due to severe flooding. An aerial survey reveals that floodwaters along Highway 33, spanning from the base of Pamoke Bridge to Suphan Buri, have reached depths exceeding 60 centimeters over a stretch of more than a kilometer. This situation has rendered the highway impassable, significantly affecting transportation and requiring an alternative route of over 50 kilometers for travelers.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Somchit Suphasit, the Director of the Ang Thong Highway District, disclosed plans to restore the highway to a serviceable condition. The Chao Phraya River’s leak beneath the Pa Mok Bridge has been sealed, paving the way for the restoration efforts. The initial strategy involves constructing an earthen embankment along the left bank, approximately one kilometer in length, followed by pumping water off the road surface. Should this approach prove ineffective, a secondary plan will be initiated. This involves erecting embankments on both sides of the highway and pumping out water to facilitate normal road use. The entire restoration project is anticipated to take a minimum of three days.
