Bangkok: Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has made a resolute declaration against corruption, emphasizing a no-tolerance policy and vowing to improve transparency in Thailand. The announcement was made during the International Anti-Corruption Day event, where Anutin urged all sectors to embody justice, honesty, and integrity in their operations.
According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister led the declaration of intent at the event themed “HERO OF THE TRUTH: Join Us in Stopping Corruption.” He stressed the government’s commitment to fighting corruption decisively and set a goal for all agencies to develop strategies to enhance transparency and improve the country’s Corruption Perception Index (CPI) score.
Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, also serving as Minister of Interior, presided over the event, which was attended by key figures such as Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, and Mr. Chatchart Sittipunt, Governor of Bangkok, among others. The gathering included representatives from the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), the Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC), and the Anti-Corruption Organization (Thailand), along with international organization representatives, government officials, the private sector, and the public.
Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, Spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, relayed that the Prime Minister highlighted the significance of International Anti-Corruption Day, designated by the United Nations as a day for global solidarity in eradicating corruption. Anutin underscored the detrimental impact of corruption on trust, development opportunities, and citizens’ quality of life.
The Prime Minister declared that the government would maintain a steadfast stance against corruption, refusing to tolerate actions that undermine national interests. He emphasized collaboration with all sectors to foster a transparent and just society. Anutin acknowledged the transparency challenges facing Thailand, which have affected public trust and investor confidence, citing the country’s CPI score of 34, ranking 107th globally, as a call for urgent action.
Anutin outlined key policies to tackle these issues, which include strengthening anti-corruption systems, leveraging digital technology to enhance government service efficiency, and ensuring strict and fair law enforcement. He also emphasized the importance of cultivating a culture of honesty and integrity in Thai society, starting from educational institutions and government agencies.
The Prime Minister urged agencies to work towards improving the CPI score by developing and executing action plans. He assured that the government would consistently monitor and evaluate progress towards achieving a transparent and trustworthy Thailand.
Anutin expressed gratitude to all sectors for their efforts in safeguarding national interests and combating corruption, marking the occasion as a pivotal moment to reinforce the collective commitment to this cause. He invited everyone to join in the pledge to fight corruption, emphasizing personal integrity and dedication to the public interest.
The event concluded with Anutin unveiling the “HERO OF THE TRUTH: Stop Corruption” symbol, representing the unwavering commitment of all parties involved to eradicate corruption in Thailand.
