Bangkok: Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has assured that individuals involved in the recent exam cheating scandal, regardless of their position, will face consequences. Anutin emphasized that even ministers will not be exempt from scrutiny, reiterating his commitment to transparency and justice.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin addressed the ongoing investigation into corruption within the local government civil service examination. He clarified his role, stating he would only attend central committee meetings if issues arose, as he had delegated responsibilities to Deputy Minister of Interior Worasit Liengprasit. Anutin stressed the importance of allowing the investigative process to proceed without interference and highlighted the role of the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) in tracing financial misconduct.
In response to questions about the Central Committee for Local Government Civil Servants' authority, Anutin noted the established procedures and the ongoing involvement of the Central Investigation Bureau and the National Anti-Corruption Commission. He assured the public that the government is committed to preventing fraudulent recruitment practices and supporting agencies in prosecuting lawbreakers.
Anutin also addressed public concerns regarding the investigation's progress, specifically the money trail, and emphasized that no one is beyond accountability. He mentioned that AMLO has the duty to investigate any suspicious financial activities without needing orders from higher authorities.
When questioned about allegations of money being funneled to ministers, Anutin stated that any implicated parties would face repercussions, reinforcing the notion that justice would prevail. Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Mr. Arsit Sampanrat, declined to comment further on the authority to revoke civil servants' status but referred back to previous media statements.
The government remains steadfast in its mission to eradicate corruption and uphold integrity within its ranks, ensuring that all implicated individuals are held accountable.
