Bangkok: “Anutin” addresses the situation regarding the Amnat Charoen governor’s report about a group of individuals posing as DSI agents.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul commented on the incident where the Governor of Amnat Charoen Province covertly sent a letter to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior. The letter alleged that a group of individuals, claiming to be from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI), coerced two former senator candidates into admitting collusion in the senator elections. Anutin explained that it is standard procedure for governors to report unusual occurrences to their superiors, such as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior. He mentioned that these reports are shared in a LINE messaging group, which is often inundated with such updates throughout the day.
Anutin further stated that he had only become aware of the Amnat Charoen incident through the news the previous day. When questioned about the authenticity of the documents sent by the supposed DSI agents to the Election Commission, he admitted his uncertainty, as he does not oversee the DSI. He emphasized that his responsibilities at the Ministry of Interior involve alleviating public suffering and promoting well-being, rather than supervising the DSI.
