Bangkok: Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has directed relevant agencies to amplify their efforts in dismantling transnational drug trafficking networks, underscoring the government's commitment to combating this pressing issue.
According to Thai News Agency, during a recent Cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Anutin, who also serves as Minister of Interior, showcased the success of a significant operation in Samut Prakan province. This operation, conducted at a chemical warehouse, resulted in the arrest of individuals linked to a transnational drug trafficking network and the seizure of a considerable quantity of chemicals. These chemicals, if undetected, had the potential to produce over 1.1 billion methamphetamine pills, highlighting the network's extensive reach and the severe threat it poses to Thailand and the surrounding region.
Ms. Ratchada Thanadirek, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, disclosed that the successful operation was a joint effort between Thai security agencies and South Korea's National Intelligence Service. Following this success, the Prime Minister emphasized the government's view of drug suppression as a national priority. He has tasked four main agencies-the Royal Thai Police, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Interior, and the Ministry of Defense-with the ongoing investigation. Their mission is not only to prosecute those already apprehended but to trace and dismantle the entire network, including its masterminds, supporters, production sources, and financial backers.
The Prime Minister's directive calls for strict enforcement of the law to prevent Thailand from serving as a conduit or base for such criminal activities. He urged all agencies to align with his policy of relieving suffering, promoting well-being, and ensuring peace while actively combating drug trafficking and criminal enterprises. This coordinated effort aims to deliver tangible and sustainable results in tackling the drug problem, ultimately benefiting the Thai populace.
