Buriram:Anutin Charnvirakul has ordered nationwide preparations for potential flooding from October 4-10, emphasizing the importance of emergency response plans, especially in the southern region. The measures include setting up shelters, evacuation centers, and ensuring the availability of water pumps, food, and medicine.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin, in his roles as Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, participated in a video conference from the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command Center in Buriram. The meeting aimed to assess the flood situation and coordinate aid for affected areas. Various government officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn and other ministers, were present.
Anutin has been actively visiting evacuation centers in Chai Nat and Nakhon Sawan to oversee the assistance provided to flood victims. He stressed the necessity of continuous shelter establishment, especially for vulnerable populations, and instructed provincial governors to ensure the readiness of essential services and resources.
Daily monitoring of weather forecasts is critical, Anutin noted, urging provincial authorities to preemptively relocate vulnerable groups to shelters to mitigate the impact of floods. Efficient management of aid and resources was also highlighted to prevent wastage and ensure equitable distribution across regions.
Focus is on the southern provinces where heavy rainfall is anticipated. Anutin urged local governors to review contingency plans, identify high-risk areas, and prepare necessary equipment and teams for potential evacuations. Coordination with military and administrative bodies is essential for effective rescue operations.
The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation is tasked with centralizing information and coordinating aid, ensuring timely and accurate communication with the public. Medical facilities and personnel are being prepared to provide effective healthcare, particularly for bedridden patients in high-risk areas.
Anutin also underscored the importance of addressing stagnant and polluted water in flooded areas, which poses health risks. Proper drainage planning and public communication are prioritized to address these challenges and inform residents.
