Bangkok: Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul visited Cambodia to engage in discussions with Xi Jinping concerning the Thai-Cambodian border dispute, suggesting that China might mediate the ongoing conflict. Anutin disclosed that he consulted with the military before his visit to China, seeking insights on matters to address with the Chinese leadership. He expressed openness to China's involvement in resolving the border issues and emphasized ongoing dialogue with Myanmar regarding the Kok River contamination, ethnic minority matters, and drug trafficking, prioritizing national interests.
According to Thai News Agency, Anutin confirmed that discussions with the Thai military encompassed a range of topics, ahead of his meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang. The discussions are set to cover trade, economics, cooperation, and security concerns. Anutin noted the upcoming visit of the Chinese Minister of Defence to Thailand, which will continue the dialogue on these issues.
Anutin addressed inquiries about the potential supply of weapons and equipment for the Thai-Cambodian border, labeling it a national security matter unsuitable for public discussion. On the possibility of China mediating the border dispute, Anutin welcomed the idea, acknowledging China's supportive role in the region.
Regarding the Kok River contamination, Anutin emphasized the necessity of bilateral discussions with Myanmar. He highlighted recent talks with the Myanmar Foreign Minister on this issue, alongside air pollution, ethnic minorities, and drug trafficking. Anutin noted the impending visit of Myanmar's leader, Min Aung Hlaing, to Thailand, stating that all discussions would focus on mutual benefits for both countries, aiming for swift and agreeable resolutions.
