Anutin Reveals General Prayut’s Encouragement to Support Prime Minister

Bangkok: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul revealed insights from his recent meeting with General Prayut Chan-o-cha, a privy councilor and former prime minister. Anutin expressed that General Prayut had not shown any significant concerns regarding the government, but instead offered personal encouragement and support to continue his work in assisting the prime minister.

According to Thai News Agency, Anutin shared that during their interaction, General Prayut focused on Anutin’s well-being and the challenges of his work, consistently offering moral support. Anutin emphasized that General Prayut’s gestures of encouragement were routine, noting that General Prayut often reassured him with a supportive pat on the shoulder, urging him to contribute effectively to the government’s efforts.

Addressing media inquiries about the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) documents that allegedly involved his name in false claims about the institution, Anutin clarified that such challenges are common in his role. He stressed the importance of transparency and truth, suggesting that if unfounded claims arise, they should be addressed and clarified to maintain integrity. Anutin highlighted that any unresolved issues would be handled with due diligence and explained that misinterpretations often arise when people focus solely on headlines rather than details.

Regarding the specific case involving the ISOC documents, Anutin stated that clarification had been provided by Maj. Gen. Winthai Suvari, the army spokesman, and Maj. Gen. Thammanoon Maisonthi, the ISOC spokesman. Anutin expressed confidence that the matter had been adequately addressed, urging reporters to consider the case closed. He acknowledged that mistakes could occur but reiterated his long-standing opposition to amending Section 112, ensuring that any miscommunication was corrected.

When questioned about the future of the ISOC in light of proposals to abolish it, Anutin humorously noted his position as ISOC vice chairman, where he gains valuable insights from meetings. His remarks suggest his ongoing involvement and the utility of the organization in its current form.
