Assistant Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police explained that they have done their utmost to track down the suspects in the Tak Bai case. After the statute of limitations expired, some suspects in the case appeared. From now on, it is up to the superiors to decide. Pol. Lt. Gen. Samran Nuanma, Assistant Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, said that after the Narathiwat Provincial Court issued an arrest warrant for the suspects in the Tak Bai case, the police immediately rushed to track down and arrest the suspects. They searched 52 locations and monitored 241 locations, including houses in the suspects' residences and relatives' houses, but the suspects were not found. They therefore coordinated with the International Police to issue red notices to all 14 people. Later, an investigation found that one suspect had fled to Japan and another had fled to England, but they could not be arrested. When the statute of limitations expired and the court ordered the case to be dismissed from the reg istry, the right to bring the criminal case to court was suspended in accordance with Section 39 (6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, causing the arrest warrant to lose its validity. The assistant police chief said that in the past, the police and all relevant sectors have tried their best to track down all suspects. Even after the statute of limitations expired, it was found that the district chief of Tha Uthen, who was a suspect in the case, appeared and returned to work as usual. It is up to the superiors to consider further. As for whether the inability to arrest the suspects was the police's fault or not, he believes that Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, the national police chief, will investigate the facts again. Reporters asked that if the Tak Bai case suspects could not be arrested, the situation in the southern border provinces might become more severe. Pol. Lt. Gen. Samran said that police in the area had been monitored and notified to protect the lives and property of the people for peace and order in the area.-419-Thai News Agency Source: Thai News Agency
