Lampang: The assistant village headman, who was involved in a fatal accident that resulted in the death of a 2-year-old child, failed to appear for questioning at the district office.
According to Thai News Agency, the deputy village headman is reportedly experiencing extreme stress and is avoiding the media, leading to concerns over his mental health and potential suicide risk. A doctor has been in contact with him to address these concerns.
The incident in question involved the assistant village headman, Mr. Dech, who was driving under the influence of alcohol. The accident resulted in the death of a child named Termfan and left the child's mother with a fractured leg. She is currently receiving treatment in a hospital, with surgery scheduled for Monday, June 15th. Termfan's body is being kept at Wat Sri Kerd temple, awaiting cremation once the mother is discharged from the hospital.
The District Chief of Lampang City had summoned Mr. Dech for questioning to gather evidence and report the findings to the Governor, with the intent of removing him from office under the Local Administration Act. However, Mr. Dech did not present himself for the scheduled meeting. Due to his apparent stress and refusal to leave his home, district officials plan to question him at his residence.
In a related event, the family of Termfan conducted a traditional Lanna ritual to release her spirit. The ceremony, which included monks and specific offerings, took place at the accident site, maintaining a somber atmosphere as the family sought peace for Termfan's soul.
