Hat yai: Atthakorn Sirilathayakorn, Minister of Tourism and Sports, is expediting efforts to evacuate tourists affected by recent flooding in Hat Yai, while also preparing for the upcoming SEA Games in December.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Atthakorn has been actively visiting the flood-stricken Hat Yai District in Songkhla Province to supervise the evacuation of both residents and tourists. He has been coordinating with embassies and hotel associations to identify and assist stranded tourists. Additionally, he has enlisted the help of the Royal Irrigation Department to provide large vehicles for transporting tourists, ensuring they have access to safe accommodations. Efforts are also underway to maintain an adequate supply of food for those affected by the flooding.
In light of the upcoming SEA Games scheduled from December 9-20, Mr. Atthakorn has addressed concerns about the event’s preparations, particularly since Songkhla Province is one of the key locations. The flooding has impacted the stadium designated for the Muay Thai competition, but a backup venue has been secured to ensure the event proceeds smoothly. Mr. Atthakorn remains optimistic that other sports events will continue as planned once the floodwaters recede.
