Bangkok: Police denied bail to a Uten Thani Technical College student who was involved in a stabbing incident on the BTS Skytrain. The suspect, accompanied by a group of friends, visited the police station to assert his innocence. However, police presented him with an arrest warrant and took him into custody at the station.
According to Thai News Agency, the incident occurred between students from Rajamangala University of Technology Eastern Campus, Uthenthawai Campus, and Pathumwan Institute of Technology on the 3rd floor of BTS Siam Station on September 7th. It resulted in two students from Pathumwan being stabbed and injured.
Police at Pathumwan Police Station used CCTV footage to identify the perpetrator. Yesterday, a group of students from Uthenthawai Campus, including those involved in the incident, went to the police station. Police recognized and arrested Mr. Wichakorn, a 20-year-old student from Rajamangala University of Technology Eastern Campus, Uthenthawai, upon his confession of being the person in the CCTV footage. He admitted to evading the police.
The investigation uncovered that the students aimed to demonstrate their innocence and provide evidence to the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, indicating that the incident stemmed from a personal vendetta rather than institutional rivalry. They claimed the encounter was unintentional, and their actions were impulsive.
Despite their claims, police charged them with "jointly attempting to murder another person and carrying a knife in a city, village, or public place without reasonable cause," and opposed bail. Investigators have taken them to the Bangkok South Criminal Court for remand.
