Bangkok Gears Up for Transparent and Fair Gubernatorial and Councilor Elections

Bangkok: The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) Permanent Secretary emphasized that the gubernatorial and councilor elections must be transparent, honest, and fair. The BMA has organized training sessions to ensure that the upcoming Bangkok gubernatorial and councilor elections are conducted with utmost transparency, fairness, adherence to the law, and a focus on building public trust.

According to Thai News Agency, at 9:00 AM, Mr. Narong Ruangsri, Permanent Secretary of Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, presided over the opening ceremony of the first training program for district executives preparing for the Bangkok Metropolitan Council and Governor elections. The event saw attendance from members of the Bangkok Metropolitan Election Commission, Deputy Permanent Secretaries, department directors, BMA Inspectors, Assistant Permanent Secretaries, and other relevant officials. Held in the Bangkok Room, Irawat Pattana Building, Bangkok City Hall, Din Daeng, the training aims to equip participants with necessary knowledge on election procedures and legal regulations for efficient, honest, and fair election management. The training is structured into two sessions: Session 1 on May 23, 2026, for district executives (265 participants), and Session 2 on May 24, 2026, for district office staff (265 participants).

The Bangkok Metropolitan Local Election Commission was introduced during this occasion, consisting of Mr. Khajit Chatchavanich as Chairman, along with members like Mr. Tosapol Phuean-udom, Mr. Suphachai Chanpum, Mr. Apichai Thongprasom, and Police Major General Attaporn Wongsiripreeda. Additionally, discussions covered various election management topics, including contributions from Acting Sub-Lieutenant Phasakon Siriphakayaporn and speakers from the Election Commission and Department of Local Administration and Registration.

The Permanent Secretary stated that electing Bangkok Metropolitan Council members and the Governor is a crucial democratic mechanism, providing citizens the opportunity to exercise their rights and influence city administration. Therefore, ensuring honest, transparent, and lawful elections is vital and demands cooperation from knowledgeable and prepared officials.

He further emphasized Bangkok's significant role in the election process, highlighting the importance of preparing personnel to ensure consistency, minimize errors, and build public confidence among voters. The training aims to benefit participants by increasing their understanding of relevant laws and practical procedures, thus enhancing their confidence and efficiency in their roles.
