Bangkok Implements Waste Separation Incentive Program

Bangkok: Take a peek behind the scenes at Bangkok! Submit photos of your waste separation and receive a discount on your garbage fee to 20 baht/month. Join the “This House Doesn’t Dump Waste Together” campaign. Mr. Jakkapan Phuengam, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, chaired the 5th/2025 meeting to follow up on the progress of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s solid waste fee management information system under the “This House Doesn’t Mix: Separate Waste, Reduce Fees” project, in accordance with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s regulations on fees for waste or solid waste management services under the Public Health Act, B.E. 2025, which came into effect on October 1, 2025.

According to Thai News Agency, the meeting reported on the progress of registration for the “This House Doesn’t Mix and Match: Separate Waste, Reduce Fees” project. Currently, there are 998,311 registered households, divided into 356,508 individual registrants and 641,803 group registrants at 4,195 locations. Registration for the 20 baht monthly waste fee is divided into 14,539 households awaiting verification, 2,616 households passed verification, and 204,812 eligible households (as of November 16, 2015). Furthermore, the meeting considered issues encountered in registering for the BKK WASTE PAY application, verifying data regarding the submission of evidence of waste separation, collecting waste from residents’ homes, and affixing stickers to eligible registrants.

The Deputy Governor of Bangkok has assigned the Environment Department and 50 district offices to inform the public about submitting photos as evidence of waste separation for four types. Once citizens register and receive the “Waste Separation, Fee Reduction” privilege online, the system will notify them to submit their first photos of their waste separation to claim the privilege. They will then be reminded to submit photos within the specified timeframe. If photos are not submitted, or are incomplete or incorrect, the system will notify them three times. If a third warning is received, the discount eligibility will be suspended and the fee will revert to the normal monthly rate of 60 baht for six months. After this, they can submit new photos as evidence to claim the discount again.

Currently, 206,356 households are eligible, and 7,508 households have applied stickers. They will be eligible to pay the 20 baht monthly garbage fee starting from the first bill in October 2025. This is divided into 175,312 invoices and 19,493 receipts (as of November 16, 2025). Citizens can register to participate in the “This House Doesn’t Mix” project. By separating waste, you can reduce the waste fee every day. It’s not just about getting the right to pay the waste fee, but if everyone works together, we can reduce waste in the city, making Bangkok a clean and sustainable city.
