Bangkok: The Bhumjaithai Party is bustling with activity on the first day of registration for parliamentary candidates. Major political families are all present, including the ‘Suchart – Ekanat – Varawut’ group. Former Pheu Thai and Palang Pracharath MPs are also expected to join the party for the 2026 general election.
According to Thai News Agency, the atmosphere at the Bhumjaithai Party headquarters has been bustling since this morning. It’s the first day of registration for party members who will run for Member of Parliament (MP) in order to meet the 30-day deadline after the dissolution of parliament, during which candidates must find a political party affiliation before the election. Since this morning, former MPs and political groups have been continuously arriving to register as members.
At 9:55 AM, the group of 16, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, Suchart Chomklin, arrived. Mr. Suchart confirmed that all 16 former MPs in the group would be registering.
Meanwhile, Mr. Santi Piyathat, Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office, has led former MPs under his wing to register and join the Bhumjaithai Party in preparation for the 2026 general election.
Later, at 11:00 AM, Mr. Ekanat Promphan, former secretary-general of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, led his team to the Bhumjaithai Party headquarters. It is expected that Mr. Ekanat will take responsibility for the Bangkok constituencies, together with Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office.
The main highlight of the day was at noon, when Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, former leader of the Chart Thai Pattana Party, officially introduced 12 other former MPs into the new party.
However, this afternoon the Bhumjaithai Party will hold a party meeting, marking the full kickoff to the election campaign. The main agenda item is preparing and selecting candidates, with the party aiming to field 500 candidates in total: 400 constituency MPs and 100 party-list MPs.
