Bangkok: Bhumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, has firmly denied any secret deals or moves to reform the government, expressing confidence in the coalition parties and dismissing speculation as mere political discourse.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Bhumtham addressed recent reports suggesting potential government reform and cross-party negotiations. He emphasized that there is no need to send signals to coalition parties, as discussions have been ongoing and transparent for nearly a month. He reiterated his trust in the Prime Minister's sincerity and commitment to addressing the issues at hand, asserting that any decisions will ultimately rest with the court's discretion.
Mr. Bhumtham also downplayed the significance of opposition meetings extending until late at night, indicating that such gatherings are part of their responsibilities. He dismissed any notions of impropriety or financial inducements related to these meetings, emphasizing the legitimacy of opposition parties exercising their right to convene.
When questioned about his confidence in the coalition partners, Mr. Bhumtham affirmed that the coalition government maintains open and constructive communication. He remarked that media speculation often exaggerates the situation, but he remains confident in the coalition's stability and the informed decision-making of all parties involved.
Regarding a recent dinner meeting with Bhumjaithai Party leader General Prawit Wongsuwan, Mr. Bhumtham clarified that it was a routine political engagement and not a signal of any impending changes. He asserted that political figures regularly meet and dine with colleagues as part of normal political interaction.
Addressing rumors of a cross-party deal involving 270 votes, Mr. Bhumtham denied any such negotiations and suggested that those spreading such information should be questioned. He expressed a desire to avoid engaging with baseless rumors, focusing instead on the positive developments within the coalition.
In response to inquiries about intra-party discussions, Mr. Bhumtham noted that these matters are handled internally within each party and through established systems of cooperation among the coalition members.
At the conclusion of his remarks, Mr. Bhumtham reiterated his ongoing support for the Prime Minister, stating that he provides encouragement daily. With that, he promptly proceeded into Building 1, leaving the media with his reassurances of unity and confidence in the government's direction.
