Bangkok: "Big Hyam" (a nickname for a prominent politician) and his daughter campaigned in Nong Chok, ignoring polls placing him 4th and refuting claims about his "ornamental plants" image, appealing for votes from Bangkok residents.
According to Thai News Agency, at 4:30 PM on June 1st, 2026, Pol. Lt. Gen. Charntep Sesawetch, or "Big Hyam," former Bangkok Metropolitan Police Commissioner and candidate for Bangkok Governor number 12, teamed up with Bangkok City Council candidates from the Economic Party to campaign at their first stop, the Khon Song Market in Nong Chok. They met with vendors and residents, highlighting policies focused on solving traffic problems and improving the livelihoods of Bangkok residents.
Pol. Gen. Charntep revealed his vision, stating that he wants to elevate Nong Chok into a city of the future. He explained that this vast suburban area, with its natural environment and convenient transportation, has the potential for urban development, particularly in line with economic policies. He emphasized that although Nong Chok has a predominantly Muslim population, he is committed to treating all citizens equally, and that his visit to the area today was warmly received.
Regarding the latest poll results showing him in fourth place with 7% popularity, behind the incumbent who leads with 32%, "Big Hyam" stated that with only 27 days remaining, there is still time to gain support and build understanding among Bangkok residents about the importance of working for the people. As for the bullying criticism that he is merely a "decorative plant" in the election, he believes that even decorative plants or fruit trees have their own beauty.
Furthermore, during his first field visit, Pol. Gen. Charntep brought his youngest daughter along to offer support. He dispelled any accusations of gender discrimination by stating, "I have both a wife and a daughter. How could I discriminate against anyone?" His daughter, meanwhile, expressed excitement and full support, believing her father would serve the public well.
At the end of his campaign, "Big Hyam" reiterated his commitment to solving the major problems of Bangkok residents, including safety of life and property, drug problems, and traffic congestion, under the concept of "Bangkok must survive together." He also encouraged Nong Chok residents to consider candidate number 12 and the Economic Party's team of Bangkok City Council members. The candidates who campaigned with him included: Mr. Chai Sombooncharoenkit (Nong Chok district, number 2), Mr. Tip Kantachart Prakai (Bang Kapi district, number 2), Mr. Kittithat Yoodi (Prawet district, number 2), and Mr. Wanchai Rattanakachonlai (Lat Krabang district, number 3).
