Bangkok: 'Big Tao' has confirmed that the National Police Chief has initiated an investigation into 'Commander Ta' regarding his potential involvement in the Myawaddy Complex. It is anticipated that within one month, the investigation will reveal whether he breached discipline, criminal law, or ethical standards.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Col. Charoonkiat Pankaew, deputy commander of the Central Investigation Bureau, disclosed that Pol. Gen. Kittirat Panphet, the national police chief, issued Royal Thai Police Office Order No. 63/2568. This order mandates Pol. Col. Ekkarat, also known as Commander Ta, who is the commander of the Inspection Division 5 and currently acting for the commander of the Inspection Division 6, to assist in official duties at the Royal Thai Police Operations Center. This reassignment follows his involvement in a case concerning a police officer with the rank of 'Pol. Lt. Gen.' being linked to the Myawaddy Complex in Myanmar, an entertainment venue and casino. The national police chief assigned him to investigate the dissemination of information on social media linking police to the Myawaddy Complex. A dedicated working group has been established to conduct a clear investigation within one month, focusing specifically on the behavior of Pol. Col. Ekkarat and his potential connections t o the Myawaddy Complex. The investigation will also explore whether any close associates or family members are involved, with the working group comprising officers from various related agencies, including the Anti-Corruption Commission, the Technology Crime Suppression Division, and the Office of the Narcotics Control Board.
The National Police Chief has called for this investigation, but he personally refrains from making any conclusions at this stage, requesting time for the officers to conduct their work. Currently, no disciplinary, criminal, or ethical charges have been filed. The primary objective is to determine the extent of involvement, if any, of the police officer to address concerns about the police force's image. The investigation will map out individuals who may be influential or powerful in the area and could potentially be connected. Although the Police Inspector General has previously investigated the issue, this is treated as a separate matter. Concerning information that someone close to Police Colonel Ta has assumed management of the Myawaddy Complex, the police are aware and confirm that legal action will be taken if there are any confirmed connections. This includes potential action against five other police officers in Tak Province, who have also been mentioned in transfer orders.
