Bomb Attack on Land Broker’s House in Trang Adds to Series of Explosions

Trang: An unknown assailant threw a bomb at the house of a land broker in Trang, causing damage to several vehicles and raising concerns about a potential series of targeted attacks in the province. This marks the fifth bomb attack in Trang province in just 12 days.

According to Thai News Agency, unexpected individuals dressed as insurgents from southern Thailand were involved in the incident. CCTV footage from the scene reveals a suspect, wearing a full-face helmet and a hijab, surveyed a house in Soi Khan Ken Uthit, Yantakhao Subdistrict, before returning to throw an explosive device at the property. The explosion resulted in shattered cars and property damage, with police immediately launching an investigation.

Following the incident, authorities, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers and forensic investigators from Trang Provincial Police, inspected the scene. They collected shrapnel, a grenade fuse, and bomb fragments as evidence. The blast damaged the house's infrastructure and several vehicles in the vicinity.

Mr. Ekachai, or "Bang Ek," the 63-year-old land broker and homeowner, recounted hearing an explosion after a shout, initially mistaking it for a transformer issue. He suspects the attack may be linked to his granddaughter's recent separation from her ex-husband, who has denied involvement. Despite reviewing CCTV footage, Ekachai remains uncertain about the assailant's identity due to the disguise.

Authorities have summoned the former son-in-law for questioning, although he denies the allegations. The police are actively gathering evidence and reviewing CCTV footage to apprehend those responsible. This attack follows another explosion on August 6th, involving grenades thrown at a traditional Thai house and a bullfighting arena, resulting in the death of one attacker. The frequency of these incidents has heightened tensions and concerns in the region.
