Bangkok: A Border Patrol Police Constable from Unit 21 has been suspended from duty following a fatal shooting incident at the Huai Khwang market, which resulted in the death of a local motorcycle taxi driver and injuries to two others.
According to Thai News Agency, the Border Patrol Police Command (BPP) released a statement addressing the incident, which occurred on June 14, 2026, at approximately 2:25 AM in the Din Daeng district of Bangkok. The statement identifies the officer involved as Police Sergeant Major Namthap, whose last name has been withheld. At the time of the incident, Sergeant Major Namthap was on leave for personal reasons. He is currently in custody at Huai Khwang Police Station, where legal proceedings are underway. An investigation committee has been established by BPP Division 21 to further examine the case, leading to his suspension.
Pol. Col. Sakya Saengwan, Deputy Commander of Metropolitan Police Division 1, disclosed that Sergeant Major Namthap surrendered to Makkasan Police Station before being taken into custody by Huai Khwang Police Station. The officer confessed, citing anger after an argument with the motorcycle taxi driver over a fare dispute. He admitted to having consumed alcohol prior to the incident and was carrying a legally registered firearm. It was revealed that he failed to take his psychiatric medication the day before the shooting. Charges against him include intentional homicide, attempted homicide, and unlawful carrying of a firearm in a public place.
In a separate case, Police Colonel Sakya also reported on the progress regarding a Myanmar man accused of murdering and dismembering his girlfriend. The suspect has been apprehended by Myanmar authorities, and arrangements for his extradition to Thailand are underway. Efforts continue to locate the remaining body parts, with instructions given to search septic tanks and coordinate with Bangkok Metropolitan Administration waste collection officials. The search may face challenges due to ongoing waste disposal activities, but authorities expect to uncover the location of the remaining body parts after questioning the suspect.
