Bangkok: Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow stated that the BRICS meeting focused on upholding international rules and preserving multilateralism. Meanwhile, Thailand utilized the forum to forge ties with emerging markets across Africa.
According to Thai News Agency, Sihasak emphasized that the BRICS group-a coalition of emerging economies-plays an increasingly vital role in shaping a global order currently challenged by major powers shifting away from established norms, as evidenced by escalating violence in the Middle East.
During the sessions, participants focused on strengthening collective resilience through enhanced economic security, innovation, and the advancement of the green economy. Sihasak noted that Thailand's primary objective remains the pursuit of global peace, advocating for the resolution of international conflicts through diplomatic dialogue.
On the economic front, the minister highlighted the summit as a strategic gateway for Thailand to penetrate emerging markets in Africa. By engaging with representatives from nations such as Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Egypt, Thailand aims to diversify its trade footprint and foster new partnerships within the African continent's growing economies.
