Bangkok: Police arrested a neighbor for fatally beating a 65-year-old man with a stick after he surrendered to the police. Meanwhile, angry villagers and relatives of the deceased mobbed the suspect, attempting to lynch him.
According to Thai News Agency, the image shows the scene this morning after Mr. Wicheth, 54, the suspect, surrendered to police at Bang Rachan Police Station. The superintendent of Saeng Ha Police Station arrived to take him back to his area for prosecution. Meanwhile, villagers and relatives of the deceased, Mr. Saiwai, 65, attempted to mob him, shouting insults in anger and outrage.
This tragic incident occurred on the night of June 18th. The suspect, a next-door neighbor, stormed into Mr. Saiwai's house armed with a stick and fatally attacked him. Mr. Saiwai's wife tried to help but was powerless. Initially, the suspect did not flee and even told the victim's wife that he was dead, his brain was destroyed, and that he was ready to surrender. He said he would only face a maximum of 10 years in prison, or possibly 5-6 years if the sentence was reduced. When the victim's wife tried to call the police, the suspect snatched the phone, saying he would call himself, before fleeing.
This morning, the headman of Pho Sangho Subdistrict, Khai Bang Rachan District, Singburi Province, along with a close friend of the suspect, brought the suspect to surrender at Khai Bang Rachan Police Station.
The suspect confessed that he harbored resentment towards Mr. Saiwai due to dissatisfaction with the installation of CCTV cameras at Mr. Saiwai's house, which led to ongoing arguments for several years. Before the incident, they had another argument, during which he used a piece of wood found near the stairs to climb into the house and assault Mr. Saiwai. He then fled and hid in a sugarcane field before contacting a friend to coordinate with the village headman to arrange his surrender. He wanted to tell his mother not to worry but declined to offer any condolences to the victim's family. Police have charged him with murder, nighttime burglary, possession of a weapon, and robbery.
