Bangkok: The remains of the State Audit Office have been partially dismantled to the basement level, with officials continuing their search efforts after uncovering another missing person’s body. The Office of the Auditor General’s building has been reduced to the first floor, and excavation efforts have commenced in the basement. Authorities are incorporating a drilling machine today to expedite the search and recovery process. Last night, the body of another missing person was discovered, and officials are working diligently to return all missing persons’ bodies to their families.
According to Thai News Agency, the atmosphere at the Office of the Auditor General has been somber, as yesterday marked one month since the incident. Officials, led by Mr. Suriyachai Rawiwan, Director of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, are continuing their efforts. The search revealed 3 large cases between 2-4 p.m. last night, which included 1 complete body and 5 body parts found in Zone D, specifically in the stairwell area.
The demolition process has progressed to the first floor in Zones A and D, with partial progress in the basement. Zones B and C, adjacent to the parking building, are less obstructed by steel, allowing machinery and gas cutting teams to operate. The teams are working on opening a path believed to have been used by victims attempting to escape the building. However, the intact floor panels in Zone D2, piled in layers, are complicating the work. To address this, heavy machinery, including 2 impact drills, has been deployed to break apart the concrete panels, allowing for quicker progress. If successful, access to the fire escape in Zone D2 is anticipated by night, with hopes of discovering more victims.
Efforts in Zones B and C are expected to reach the first floor today. Clearing the basement as planned within the week remains a priority. The Director expressed commitment to expedite the recovery of all missing bodies, emphasizing the high motivation among the officers. Despite it being National Labor Day on May 1st, the search and recovery operations will continue uninterrupted.
