Burma: The Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, led by Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, has launched a dedicated center aimed at managing and supporting vulnerable groups affected by disasters. This initiative is part of the Ministry's continued efforts under the 5x5 policy framework, which seeks to address challenges posed by population changes and climate-related disasters. According to Thai News Agency, the newly established 'Disaster Care Center for the Vulnerable (DCCV)' will serve as a crucial mechanism for providing proactive assistance and relief to those most at risk. The center's responsibilities include offering direct aid, monitoring assistance outcomes, and fostering public awareness about disaster support. This initiative underscores the Ministry's commitment to integrating its efforts across both central and regional agencies. Mr. Varawut announced that the National Disaster Risk Reduction (NDRR) has formed a working group to ensure the center operates efficiently. This group, chaired b y the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, includes advisors such as Mr. Nikorn Chamnong and Professor Kanok Wongtra-ngan, among others. Their tasks involve developing strategies for assistance, analyzing data, and proposing policy recommendations to enhance disaster response efforts. In alignment with these objectives, a visit to Songkhla Province is planned for November 7, 2024. During this visit, Mr. Varawut and Ministry executives will conduct a workshop focused on disaster preparedness in the southern region, demonstrating their commitment to supporting local teams and strengthening regional disaster management capabilities.
