Bangkok: The Cabinet has approved measures to support the hiring of foreign content producers, aiming to enhance digital content capabilities and work processes in Thailand. The initiative, proposed by the Ministry of Culture, seeks to elevate the standards and global competitiveness of the Thai digital content industry.
According to Thai News Agency, the spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, indicated that the measures aim to promote production quality, enhance Thai entrepreneurs’ international competitiveness, boost local employment, and facilitate skills development and knowledge exchange. The plan also includes compiling a database of expenses to inform future industry policies.
The benefits are directed at foreign companies with contracts worth 5 million baht or more with Thai firms. These firms must authorize a Thai entrepreneur to apply for the benefits. Eligible Thai contractors must be legal entities in the animation, visual effects, or post-production sectors, with 50% Thai ownership and operation for at least two years. They should employ Thai workers for 80% of their expenses and have an office in Thailand. The subsidy offered is 20 percent of the contract wages.
The Cabinet also emphasized the need for the Ministry of Culture to consult with relevant public and private entities to assess the feasibility of implementing these measures. This includes conducting a thorough cost-benefit analysis and establishing transparent criteria and methods for implementation to ensure measurable economic benefits without causing unnecessary revenue loss. If deemed beneficial, relevant agencies are advised to prepare operational and budget plans to align with the actual expenses and adhere to legal and regulatory standards.
