Tokyo: Carlos Cuedas, the former WBC super flyweight world champion, has officially announced his retirement from boxing following an eighth-round TKO defeat to Tomoya Tsuboi at the Toyota Arena in Tokyo. This match marked Cuedas’s first return to Japan in almost a decade.
According to Thai News Agency, the Mexican boxer has concluded his 17-year professional boxing career with a record of 44 wins, 6 losses, and 1 draw, with 28 victories coming by knockout. This recent defeat was the second TKO loss in his career, the first being against Juan Francisco Estrada in the 11th round of their 2020 rematch.
Cuedas’s career has been notable for his position among the ‘Fab Four’ of the 115-pound division, alongside Juan Francisco Estrada, Roman Gonzalez, and Srisaket Nakhonluang Promotion. He gained prominence by defeating Srisaket via unanimous technical decision in 2014 and went on to successfully defend his title six times before losing the belt to Gonzalez in 2016.
