Bangkok: Chadchart reveals he is accelerating efforts to reinforce the foundation beneath Samsen Police Station using the Shotcrete system, hoping the rain won’t cause further flooding and disrupt the project.
According to Thai News Agency, Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt stated that repairs to the Samsen Road, which collapsed this morning, involved the pouring of 110 cubic meters of concrete around 2:00 AM. Additional concrete was poured today above the damaged area, bringing the total to 1,105 cubic meters. The concrete pouring is expected to be halted at this time. Regarding the installation of water pumps, they have been completed and are capable of pumping 25 cubic meters per second. Light rain fell last night, measuring 7 millimeters, and while heavy rain is expected tomorrow, sufficient pumps have been prepared.
From discussions with the engineering team, there has been a focus on strengthening the area under the Samsen Metropolitan Police Station using the Shotcrete method. This method involves the use of spray concrete injected under the station to stabilize the soil. Following this, the Black Seal method will be employed, bringing in sand as a fill material to enhance strength, with the potential addition of crushed stone. The final step involves filling the road surface. The project is confirmed to be proceeding according to the original schedule, with the road surface expected to be completed by October 8th.
Regarding the missing water pipes, drainage pipes, and communication lines, discussions are underway to determine whether these connections need to be completed all at once. Overall, the project remains on target with no obstacles. The only concern is the rain, but fortunately, it stopped today.
The police have requested cooperation in reconnecting to CCTV signals, as members of the public may visit the police station to view footage in the event of car accidents. Access to the CCTV footage is currently unavailable, but efforts are being expedited to connect to other locations and facilitate access.
Mr. Chadchart also expressed gratitude to the MRTA and the contractors for their excellent work, including contributions from international experts with extensive knowledge of Thailand’s tunnels. He expressed confidence in the chosen method’s long-term safety and thanked the Prime Minister for his visit and encouragement to the staff. He emphasized the importance of inspections at all stations, urging them to use this incident as a lesson to identify any issues on both the Southern Purple Line and Western Orange Lines.
