Chaiyanok Chidchob Addresses Allegations and Political Implications Amidst Legal Battle

Bangkok: “Chaiyanok” reiterates that she stands by her mother but is not taking sides regarding the controversy surrounding the posting of the civil registration documents. Chaiyanok affirms that no one is above the law, after being sued for allegedly failing to take action regarding his mother’s posting of the opposing party’s civil registration information. He points out that after investigation, it does not fall under Section 157 of the Criminal Code. He insists that if it’s not a political game, then it’s understandable, and reiterates that he stands by his mother, but not on her side.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chaiyachanok Chidchob, Minister of Digital Economy and Society, addressed the lawsuit against him for alleged dereliction of duty stemming from his mother, Mrs. Karuna Chidchob, posting another person’s civil registration information online. He stated that if this wasn’t a political maneuver, he sympathized with the complainant. Initially, he thought he was also in the wrong, but later learned that he couldn’t proceed under Section 157. The Director of the Personal Data Protection Board has clarified the legal aspects, and he affirmed that he had done his best, that no one is above the law, and that he was not taking sides.

“When it comes to illegal acts, no one will side with anyone. That day, I advised and gave an interview stating that after investigation, it didn’t actually fall under the PDPA (Personal Data Protection Act). However, we might have to investigate what specific offense was committed, such as defamation. Therefore, even though I stand by my mother, I won’t side with anyone if it’s a matter of legal wrongdoing,” Mr. Chaiyanok said.

Regarding his view on the fact that a police report was filed so close to the election, Mr. Chaiyanok reiterated that, as he said, if it’s not a political game, then it’s understandable, but he’s not worried because ultimately, if it is a political game, they will face the consequences anyway. He has been actively dealing with scammers and will not stop in this matter.

Mr. Chaiyanok also revealed that he had discussed this matter with his mother, who was worried and felt guilty, and concerned about the potential impact on himself and public opinion. However, he assured her that he had done everything possible, that wrongdoings are wrong, and that no one is above the law. He also told his mother not to worry too much.
