Bangkok: Chalermchai encourages Democrat Party members to adhere to the ideology and lead the party in the right direction, saying that there are two ways in politics: the opposition and the government. He asked back that he had never seen any political party declare itself as the opposition for the whole country. He said that no one has the right to call it a dinosaur party. Preparing for a general meeting on April 26 to convey the direction to be ready to accept changes and reclaim Bangkok.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chalermchai Sri-on, leader of the Democrat Party, told party members at the 79th anniversary celebration of the Democrat Party under the concept of ‘Moving Forward to the 8th Decade’ that many people are wondering whether the Democrat Party will survive or not. He admitted that it is a challenging question, but he will use the insults to drive the party forward. He emphasized that the party has never stopped its ideology since the first day it was established, and democracy, which is the nation, religion, and monarchy, is the heart of Thai politics. Therefore, he confirmed that the Democrat Party under his leadership will never change its principles.
As the leader of the Democrat Party, what I have been doing this year is to create unity in the Democrat Party. I admit that I am moving forward. Even though I have to run or climb a mountain, I will keep walking and will push forward to the next election through provincial representatives who are ready to send candidates to all 77 provinces, which are the original foundations of the party. I see that the past 6 months have been moving forward steadily, not superficially, and no politician in the Democrat Party has bought votes, just like the by-election in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, which had Mr. Chinnaworn Boonyakiat announce that he would not buy votes. Therefore, if we want honest politics, everyone must help each other. I personally confirm that I will lead the Democrat Party forward with ideology and dignity.
Mr. Chalermchai also emphasized that politics has two paths: being the opposition and being the government. However, when asked if any political party has declared neutrality or declared to be the opposition throughout the country, he personally said that he has never seen it because the people will not choose them because they cannot solve the problems. However, being a coalition government party must consider appropriateness and take into account the overall picture, especially the Democrat Party, which will move forward with quality, principles, and ideology, and is ready to ask everyone to come back and help each other and ask for the Bangkok MPs to return.
Mr. Chalermchai also confirmed that he will lead the party in the right direction. In the past, some people said that the party was near extinction, but today we are still walking together. Today, everyone will no longer have the right to call the Democrat Party a dinosaur. On April 26, there will be a general meeting to discuss and convey the party’s future direction, how it will move forward, and to be ready to accept change.
