Nonthaburi: "Chalong" hangs his head in shame as he prepares to go to jail after the court denied him bail, citing the seriousness of the case and the high penalty. Police at Rattanathibet Police Station have taken Chalong Riangrang into custody and remanded him to Nonthaburi Provincial Court on four serious charges. He refused to answer media questions. The court has denied him bail due to the severity of the charges and the high penalties involved.
According to Thai News Agency, investigators from Rattanathibet Police Station filed a request for a first remand order (Case No. F.823/2569) for Mr. Chalong Riangrang, 71 years old, the suspect on charges of intentional homicide, attempted homicide, carrying a firearm in a city, village, or public place without permission and without reasonable cause, and firing a firearm using explosives without justification in a city, village, or crowded area.
The charges fall under the Criminal Code Sections 32, 33, 80, 91, 288, 371, 376 and the Firearms, Ammunition, Explosives, Fireworks and Imitation Weapons Act B.E. 2490 Sections 4, 7, 8 bis, 72, 72 bis. After the detention process was completed, the suspect filed a bail application at this stage.
The Nonthaburi Provincial Court ordered that bail not be granted, citing the seriousness and audacity of the crime, the high penalty for the offense, and the investigators' objection to bail. The court feared the suspect would flee or commit further offenses if released on bail, leading to the dismissal of the bail application and issuance of a detention order.
During the transfer to Nonthaburi Provincial Court, a team of several officers from the Nonthaburi Provincial Police Special Operations Unit provided security and protection throughout the journey from Rattanathibet Police Station to the court. While in custody, Mr. Chalong did not answer questions from the media. However, when reporters asked if he was stressed or worried about his children, Mr. Chalong only nodded before being taken into custody at the Nonthaburi Provincial Court.
