Channapat: Songkhla MP Chanonpat Naksua has expressed his readiness to enter legal proceedings following a resolution by the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) to seize and freeze assets totaling 159 million baht. The assets, including those of his associates, have been linked to an ongoing investigation into electronic gambling operations.
According to Thai News Agency, Chanonpat, a member of the Kla Tham Party, addressed the media during an interview on the “Inside Thailand” program broadcasted on Channel 9 MCOT HD. He expressed his desire to expedite the investigation process, emphasizing that authorities have been informed of all necessary facts. Chanonpat highlighted the importance of due process and expressed confidence that the investigation would bring clarity to the situation without affecting future elections.
The AMLO’s recent announcement detailed an expanded investigation into electronic gambling activities on three major websites. The investigation has uncovered a financial trail involving individuals linked to Chanonpat, who may have engaged in transferring or concealing assets related to the offenses under Section 3 (9) of the Anti-Money Laundering Act of 1999.
The Transaction Committee has decided to temporarily seize and freeze assets tied to the case for a period not exceeding 90 days. The assets in question include cash, vehicles, land, securities, and money in bank accounts, comprising 69 items worth 159 million baht. Individuals whose assets have been seized or stakeholders wishing to contest the order must submit a written request to the Secretary-General of the AMLO, along with evidence proving the assets are unrelated to the offenses, within 30 days.
