Chanthaburi Restaurant Serves Basil Stir-Fry in Unconventional Containers

Chanthaburi: A restaurant in Chanthaburi, "Pum's Pad Krapow Wat Jai," has become a unique dining sensation by serving basil stir-fry in unexpected containers, such as cement carts, washing machines, and holy water bowls. Located on Raksak Chamul Road in the Mueang District, opposite Wat Khao Kaeo, the restaurant offers a dining experience that challenges customers to enjoy their meals in unconventional ways, adding laughter to the deliciousness of the dish.

According to Thai News Agency, the restaurant has gained international fame following a viral video on TikTok. The establishment features vintage-style decor and humorous captions throughout the venue. Customers are greeted with a quirky ordering process, which includes squeezing a chicken's butt at the counter and deciphering a menu with upside-down lettering. The restaurant, owned by Patcharee Phumsuwan (Bai Plu) and Anuphan Khongyam (Pum), began as a playful prank among friends, serving meals in peculiar containers. This concept quickly gained popularity on social media, leading to the restaurant's recognition as "Pad Krapow Wat Jai" or "Pad Krapow that Tests Your Luck."

Patrons have the choice to have their meals served in regular dishes or opt for the "test your luck" option, with most choosing the latter for the novelty. The menu includes various dishes such as Pad Krapow, curry paste, Panang, green curry, and mala, with prices starting at 40-60 baht. For those who are undecided, they can randomly select their dish by shaking a fortune stick.

Regular customers, like Thanathorn, a student from the Faculty of Education, frequent the restaurant 1-2 times a week, always opting for the unusual serving method. Thanathorn has been served meals in a toy backhoe, a basket, and a cement cart, all while enjoying the authentic Chanthaburi-style flavors. Meanwhile, a tourist from Sattahip, drawn by social media buzz, found themselves faced with a giant holy water bowl, while their friend was served a meal in a large chair and a huge earthenware pot. Despite the shock, they found the experience enjoyable and the food delicious.
