Bangkok: The Rector of Chulalongkorn University hosted the second night of funeral rites for "Hlun Solo," the renowned backpacker YouTuber who passed away in Georgia, at his home in Somdet District, Kalasin Province. The family reiterated that no bank account has been opened to receive donations.
According to Thai News Agency, the atmosphere during the second night was somber as many individuals, including fans of the YouTuber, arrived to pay their respects and express condolences to Hlun Solo's grandmother and family. Mrs. Buasong Phengsuk, Hlun's grandmother, expressed gratitude for the public's support, highlighting the praise Hlun received for his resilience and perseverance despite financial hardships. His innovative travel perspectives captivated millions of followers.
Ms. Dokkaew Ratchapho, former director of Huay Phueng School, noted that although she never met Hlun, she viewed his YouTube content as exemplary. He was the first child from Kalasin Province to win a scholarship to Chulalongkorn University's rural program in Political Science, marking him as a promising student.
The event saw a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with neighbors aiding in its management and providing food for attendees. Fans, merchants, and local businesses generously donated fresh produce and other essentials. Security was ensured by Somdet Police Station officers, Somdet District volunteers, and local officials.
The family confirmed that no donation account was set up, but contributions could be made towards charity and event preparations.
The religious ceremony, led by Professor Dr. Vilelert Poorivachara, began at 6:00 PM. He emphasized Chulalongkorn University's commitment to supporting rural students through scholarships, highlighting "Nong Hlun" as an inspiring role model for future generations.
On the night of August 10th, the final night of the funeral rites, Kalasin Province officials, led by Governor Suwan Khemthanaphet, will host the concluding Buddhist prayers. The cremation ceremony for "Hlun Solo" is scheduled for the afternoon of August 11, 2026, at Wat Rangsi Chatchawan, with tens of thousands expected to attend.
