Hat yai: Chulaphan Amornvivat, leader of the Pheu Thai Party, led an initiative to deliver much-needed cleaning supplies and consumer goods to Hat Yai, aiming to assist in flood recovery efforts. The party dispatched eight large truckloads of supplies, urging the government to prioritize cleaning mud from homes and suggesting the mobilization of psychologists to establish a mental health rehabilitation center. Deputy leader Thirat Samretwanich also provided direct lines for complaints.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Chulaphan was accompanied by key members of the Pheu Thai Party, including Ms. Thirat Samretwanich, Mr. Ko Kaew Phikunthong, Dr. Sriyada Palimaphan, Mr. Anusorn Iamsaard, Ms. Linthiporn Warinwatcharoj, Mr. Suksit Srichomkhwan, Ms. Chayapa Sindhuphrai, Mr. Payu Nuengjamnong, Mr. Nanat Hongchuwet, and Ms. Chayika Wongnapachan. They supported disaster victims, volunteers, and medical personnel at an evacuation center at Prince of Songkla University, Hat Yai Campus, providing medical supplies and basic medications.
Mr. Chulaphan highlighted the three phases of impact from discussions with volunteers and evacuees: initial concerns for life and property, eased worries as waters receded, and the current phase of reviving life post-floods. He emphasized the urgent need for government intervention in mud removal from affected homes, noting that some houses had mud up to the second floor or roof, with no systematic plan from authorities for cleanup and restoration.
The Pheu Thai Party acted as a mediator, coordinating the delivery of cleaning products and equipment to assist households. Mr. Ko Kaew addressed the lack of essential items such as high-protein milk for adults and patients, and basic electrical appliances, urging for increased donations of these crucial daily life items.
Ms. Linthiporn raised concerns about the psychological impact of the floods, as many residents remain fearful and traumatized. The Pheu Thai Party has collaborated with psychologists to support recovery efforts, planning to establish counseling centers and proposing government guidelines for expedited care.
The Pheu Thai Party’s aid campaign also included a visit to the Hat Yai District Office to offer moral support and deliver cleaning tools, food, and clothing. Ms. Thirat personally engaged with the community, offering direct support channels for grievances to be addressed in the House of Representatives.
