Rayong: A peculiar yet heartwarming story has emerged from Phla Beach in Ban Chang District, Rayong Province, where a clever chicken named "Maruay" is playing a crucial role in boosting sales at a local seafood shop.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sutin and Ms. Lin, the owners of a fresh fish and seafood shop, shared their unique experience with Maruay, a male wild rooster they raised from an egg found in their rubber plantation. Over three years, Maruay has grown into a handsome rooster with striking feathers and a friendly disposition, which has greatly contributed to the shop's popularity.
The couple explained that Maruay enjoys being part of the shop's environment, often sitting or standing beside the owners as they sell fresh fish and seafood, along with products like dried squid and shrimp paste. With a knack for attracting attention, Maruay sometimes perches on chairs, display tables, or even beams under the shop's roof, where he barks to draw in customers. Visitors are charmed by the rooster's familiar nature, often stopping to greet, pet, and photograph him.
Highlighting the bond between them, Mr. Sutin and Ms. Lin have crafted a special camouflage-patterned backpack for Maruay, allowing him to accompany them wherever they go. Maruay remains calm and content within the backpack or when held by his owners.
Since Maruay joined the family, the seafood stall has witnessed lively business, with both tourists and locals flocking to support the shop and capture moments with the charming rooster. The increased foot traffic has translated into booming sales, providing the family with a steady income and happiness. Despite receiving an offer of 5,000 baht for Maruay, the couple declined, valuing him as a cherished member of their family.
