Bangkok: The Commissioner General of Police has mandated stricter control over firearms and a comprehensive enhancement of security measures across the nation.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Gen. Trairong Phiwphan, Deputy Inspector General of the Royal Thai Police and spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, disclosed that Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphet, Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police, has directed all units nationwide to bolster measures concerning firearms and upgrade security protocols. This directive responds to recent violent incidents involving firearms and explosives, which have resulted in casualties and property damage. The government and the Royal Thai Police have prioritized crime prevention and suppression as part of their urgent policy, with Deputy Commissioners General appointed to oversee these operations.
Pol. Gen. Thana Chuwong, Deputy Commissioner General responsible for investigation, has been tasked with leading the crackdown on offenses related to firearms, ammunition, and explosives. This initiative includes identifying targets, conducting raids, and searching for firearms, weapons of war, ammunition, explosives, weapon replicas, and illegal sales of these items both physically and through social media channels.
Additionally, Pol. Gen. Thatchai Pitanilabutr, Deputy Commissioner General of Police responsible for crime prevention and suppression, has been assigned to upgrade security measures in public places such as schools, shopping malls, and parks. The focus will be on visible patrols, searches for firearms, and monitoring suspicious individuals and vehicles. The response to incidents will involve prompt arrival at scenes and deployment of tactical special operations units to manage situations. All units have also been instructed to inspect and control government-issued firearms according to regulations.
Moreover, the Commissioner General of Police has instructed all commanders, superintendents, and superiors at every level to integrate investigative and crime prevention forces to implement concrete measures against offenses related to firearms, ammunition, and explosives, ensuring strict adherence to police tactics and laws.
