Chonburi: The Commissioner General of Police has ordered an extensive investigation into police officers suspected of involvement in drug trafficking activities. Those found guilty will face both disciplinary and criminal charges.
According to Thai News Agency, the police spokesperson stated that the Commissioner General has mandated a thorough examination of the mobile phones belonging to the implicated officers. This move is part of a broader investigation into all aspects of the case, aiming to take decisive action against any wrongdoing.
In a related development, a woman associated with a suspect known as "Mr. Pong," implicated in the murder of two Russian siblings in Chonburi province, has alleged that the suspect took her to collect drugs from a police officer at Huai Yai Police Station. She claimed that Mr. Pong intended to buy gold for his wife from the proceeds of selling the drugs.
Police Lieutenant General Trairong Phiwphan, Deputy Inspector General and spokesperson for the Royal Thai Police, disclosed that Police General Kittirat Phanphet, the Commissioner General, has called for an urgent investigation. The Commander of the Chonburi Provincial Police has been instructed to promptly report the findings.
Lieutenant General Trairong indicated that commanders of the officers in question have been directed to examine the mobile phones for evidence. If incriminating evidence is found, immediate legal action will ensue. He reiterated that any other officers found complicit will be similarly held accountable, emphasizing the Royal Thai Police's commitment to transparency and periodic updates to the public and the Commissioner General.
Furthermore, Lieutenant General Trairong confirmed that the National Police Chief has tasked Provincial Police Region 2 with expanding the investigation based on television program allegations. This includes summoning victims for detailed questioning to ensure a comprehensive inquiry.
The Royal Thai Police is also reviewing processes related to prisoner releases and transfers to identify potential improvements. They stressed that any officer found in violation will face stringent disciplinary and criminal repercussions, in line with the Commissioner General's policy.
