Bangkok: Sonthiya Sawatdee has lodged a complaint with the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) against Jack Paep Ho for a public disturbance caused by the YouTuber’s actions in Japan. The incident involved Jack Paep Ho, also known as Mr. Jaturong, taking off his shirt and dancing on top of a car at a convenience store in Fujikawaguchiko, Japan, which has sparked criticism and raised concerns about its negative impact on tourism and the country’s image.
According to Thai News Agency, Sonthiya Sawatdee personally delivered a letter to Pol. Lt. Gen. Natthasak Chaowansai, the Commissioner of the Central Investigation Bureau, urging a thorough investigation into the incident. The video clip, which was shared widely on social media, has led to significant dissatisfaction among Japanese tourists and has been reported globally. This incident is considered a violation of local laws and is seen as damaging to Thailand’s reputation abroad.
Mr. Sonthiya emphasized the importance of tourism to Thailand’s economy, noting that Japanese tourists are a major source of income, with nearly one million visiting annually. He has called for swift action by the Central Investigation Bureau to determine the legal ramifications of the YouTuber’s actions, even though they occurred outside of Thailand. Under Section 326 of the Criminal Procedure Code, such actions, affecting Thailand’s honor and reputation, could lead to penalties including up to one year in prison, a fine of up to 20,000 baht, or both. The complaint aims to prevent similar actions in the future that could negatively impact the country’s image.
