Constitutional Court Demands Opinions on 400 Billion Baht Loan Decree

Bangkok: The Constitutional Court has mandated that all parties involved submit their opinions and evidence regarding the emergency decree for borrowing 400 billion baht within a 7-day timeframe. This decree, which authorizes the Ministry of Finance to borrow funds, aims to mitigate the impact of the energy crisis and facilitate a national energy transition by 2026.

According to Thai News Agency, the court's decision follows a submission by 133 Members of Parliament. These MPs, representing at least one-fifth of the House of Representatives, expressed their view to the Speaker that the Royal Decree conflicts with Section 172, paragraph one, of the Constitution. Consequently, they have requested the Constitutional Court to issue a ruling under Section 173, paragraph one, of the Constitution.

The court's directive is intended to ensure a thorough examination of the matters at hand. The individuals involved are required to present their written opinions and any pertinent information or evidence to the Constitutional Court for evaluation and judgment. The court has specified the issues on which opinions are to be submitted, emphasizing the importance of a timely and comprehensive response.
