Khon Kaen:The court has sentenced Somrak to 1 year and 12 months in prison without suspension for his involvement in indecent acts and sexual assault against a 17-year-old girl. The verdict was delivered after the Court of Appeals overturned the lower court’s decision, also imposing an additional fine of 80,000 baht.
According to Thai News Agency, the case originated from a complaint by a 17-year-old girl from Kalasin Province, who accused Somrak and his accomplices of offenses occurring after a night at an entertainment venue in Khon Kaen Municipality on December 10, 2023. Somrak has maintained his innocence, claiming he was unaware of the girl's age.
The Khon Kaen Provincial Public Prosecutor charged Somrak Khamsing and Mr. Pichet with multiple offenses, including jointly abducting a minor for indecent purposes and attempted rape using force. Both defendants pleaded not guilty.
Initially, in January 2025, the lower court sentenced Somrak to 4 years and 8 months, later reduced to 2 years, 13 months, and 10 days. He was also ordered to pay 170,000 baht in compensation plus interest. Following this, Somrak filed for bail to appeal, which was granted with a 300,000 baht bond. The Court of Appeal Region 4 was scheduled to deliver its decision on October 20, 2026.
During the 50-minute verdict reading, the court confirmed Somrak's guilt for jointly abducting a minor with consent and mandated the additional compensation payment, bringing the total to 200,000 baht.
