Critical Flooding Persists at Khlong Chan Flats

Khlong Chan:The situation at Khlong Chan flats remains critical as water levels continue to rise, reaching chest height despite sunny weather. This has forced many residents to evacuate their belongings and seek temporary shelter. The stagnant water has developed a foul smell, and residents are urging authorities to expedite pumping to allow garbage trucks access to the area.

According to Thai News Agency, residents have been using boats for transportation to and from the flats. Ropes are being tied between buildings and the street to guide residents for essential activities, such as collecting food and water. However, the water level at the entrance on Soi Seri Thai 5 remains chest-high, making boats the only viable transport option.

The main challenges now are electricity and water supply, especially with elderly people and young children still residing in the area. Officials are providing electricity from approximately 10 PM to 5 AM, with restrictions on residents leaving to prevent electrical hazards. Food assistance has increased compared to the initial days of flooding.

Residents are also experiencing disruptions to their work routines, as travel difficulties prevent normal commutes. The psychological impact is significant, with many witnessing damage to personal property, including cars and motorcycles submerged in floodwaters.

Residents have expressed concern over potential rainfall in the northern region, fearing it may exacerbate the situation if floodwaters are not drained swiftly. Despite relief from the sunny day, uncertainty remains about future weather and water conditions. Rescue workers continue to assist diligently, offering some reassurance to those affected.
