Bangkok: The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued a warning for six southern provinces to remain alert for potential flash floods, flooding, and landslides, expected from August 3 to August 7, 2026.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Teerapat Khachamat, the Director-General of DDPM, stated that the Central Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Command (CDPMC) has been closely monitoring weather patterns and assessing risk factors. Concurrently, the Southern Meteorological Center (West Coast) released Announcement No. 1 (47/2569) on August 1, 2026, reporting heavy rain and strong winds in the upper Andaman Sea.
The forecast indicates that the southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea and Southern Thailand's western coast will strengthen, resulting in increased rainfall, particularly in the western part of the region. Some areas may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, with wave heights in the Andaman Sea reaching 2-3 meters and potentially exceeding 3 meters during thunderstorms. This weather pattern may lead to flash floods, landslides, and strong winds, particularly affecting the provinces of Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang, and Satun.
The DDPM has coordinated efforts with these provinces and the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Centers in Region 12 (Songkhla) and Region 18 (Phuket) to closely monitor developments and prepare for a swift response. Personnel have been deployed to observe weather conditions and water levels continuously, and disaster relief teams and machinery are on standby in high-risk areas to provide timely assistance.
Authorities have also issued warnings regarding natural tourist attractions such as caves and waterfalls, advising vigilance and restricting access if risks are identified. In response to strong winds and waves, relevant agencies are advised to issue alerts and install warning signals along coastlines to prevent tourists from swimming, while urging boat operators and captains to navigate with increased caution. If conditions worsen, all maritime transport may be halted.
Local authorities will establish a War Room to monitor the situation and provide round-the-clock assistance to the public. Temporary shelters are being prepared to accommodate possible evacuations, ensuring the availability of food, water, and essential supplies. Residents are urged to adhere to official instructions if a disaster warning is issued. They can access disaster warnings through the "THA DISASTER ALERT" application and report emergencies via the Line account "DDPM Emergency Reporting 1784".
